Finding the Courage to Discover Our Creativity
‘Each of us has an inner dream that we can unfold if we will just have the courage to admit what it is.’
— Julia Cameron, The Artist’s Way, Week 12
How many times have we hidden our inner dreams?
Hidden them from others out of fear we'd be judged or discouraged, or be flatly dismissed with the words ‘you can’t just do what you want’.
When have we buried our dreams, afraid we'd never be able to achieve them? Or fear we would — and it still wouldn't be enough?
I ask myself, 'What great dream am I still hiding from?'
I discard layers of conditioning and other people’s ideas of who I should be, and I see what’s left. In a moment of boldness, I knock it all down and sift through the rubble of my life.
I become my own archaeologist. I take down boxes from the back of my closet and rediscover lost objects. I flip through albums of forgotten photos and see evidence of cross-country road trips and parties in the backyards of former addresses. I open old journals and read passages from random pages, curious if my younger self left behind any clues.
It's tempting to stay there, surrounded by my past, but I finally figure it out in motion.
I take steps and the path appears. I turn pages and let the empty spaces be empty. Things shift and change and I start to hear my inner wisdom. Then I start to listen.
Registration is open for The Artist's Way Creative Circle
I picked up The Artist’s Way years ago when I was starting my work as a coach. I thought I’d give it a try, maybe find a few activities or tools to use with my clients.
Once I got started, I realised my exploration would go much deeper. The process was transformational.
You're invited to join me for a 13-week journey to discover and expand your creativity.
