The Artist’s Way Creative Circle is Open
When I picked up The Artist’s Way in 2018, I didn't realise how it would impact my life.
I had known about the book since around the time it was published. I was a teenager at the time, taking my first steps with drawing and painting in my high school art classroom in the leafy suburbs.
Over the years, I would see well-loved copies lying around friends’ houses and art studios.
People would give hints at their experience with it, sharing if they did the process alone or with a group. They nearly always talked about the morning pages and sometimes mentioned the artist dates. I was curious.
When I started working as a coach after teaching design, I figured the book would have some good exercises for my clients who were stuck creatively. It was time I gave it try.
I flipped through the pages and noticed each of the twelve weeks had a theme — identity, power, possibility, strength …
I got started, doing every exercise and reading every word. I took photos of the quotes in the margins and shared my journey on my blog.
The process would turn me inside out and renew my sense of self in ways I didn’t realise I needed. It was a journey of exploring my story, my passions, my gifts, my reasons for being here, myself.
I’ve done the process a few times since then, learning more about myself and the world around me as my creativity expands.
Now, I support others through their journey. My facilitation process brings together my experience as an artist, therapist, and coach.
